Written by Kalleigh Eisley-Tracy | 12/29/22 3:00 PM

This month, we conducted an interview with Sean Brungardt. Sean is a valuable member of the MarketTime Data team, bringing his skills and dedication to the role of DB Support Lead & Analytics. His work behind the scenes plays a crucial role in the onboarding process for new customers, helping them get up and running with MarketTime and achieve success. Sean’s passion for his work and appreciation for the positive culture and great people at MarketTime make him an asset to the team.

Tell us a little about yourself and what led you to your role at MarketTime.

I was born and raised in Colorado with an older brother to look up to as we grew up. My partner, Tali, and our pooch, Cedar, are my current partners in crime. What led me to my role at MarketTime is a long story, but I'll try to be brief. I studied landscape architecture and graduated during the housing crisis of '09. It took me a while to get a job and a friend who worked for Brandwise recommended I apply for an open support position. I got the job, I liked it, I was good at it, and realized that this was where I should build my career, in tech and software. And that's what I did, moving up in the support department, then into our product defense team, and finally into the data team.

What is your role at MarketTime? What are your most important duties?

I am the DB Support Lead & Analytics. My primary duties include performing data fixes and data manipulation for the Customer Success team; performing custom ETL, custom logic, and data manipulation for our Implementation team as they are onboarding new customers. I am also responsible for creating custom data objects, performing data research objectives, and other DEV requests from various Product Owners and/or stakeholders. Lastly, I also delegate and prioritize tasks to my Data team across all these various data repositories, monitor database development, perform code reviews, knowledge transfers, standards and practices, and general managerial tasks for my Data team.

Could you share more about how the work you do behind the scenes impacts the onboarding process for anyone new coming over to MarketTime?

The Data team here has constructed a way to consume files for any customer coming on board at MarketTime. This includes uploading customers, sales orders, and invoices. This ensures that our new customers will start using MarketTime with their existing customers and history. We are also constructing custom Stream exports for any of our manufacturers that sign up for our Stream service. That way they can take files from their Stream login right into their own ERP. We make it easier for our agencies’ orders to get to their manufacturers.

What is involved for the customer during this process?

The main thing that's involved for the customer during this process is getting the data that we need, such as a file with all the customers they want to be uploaded. Once we have a file ready for upload, it will go through a validation process, and we can then provide the customer with the errors so they can see any issues in the data that they could correct.

How is this data used in MarketTime?

This data is then used throughout the MarketTime software, from populating your customer list when you start an order, to seeing previous orders for that customer when you go into their showroom, to viewing that history within reports to give you better insight into growing your sales and your company.

What fires your passion to continue the work that you do at MarketTime?

I had the following realization early on as I got into the data team and started to put out my first few releases of code or reports: Our customers were using something that I had built to help them grow and advance in this industry. And if that company is growing and providing for its employees, then those employees are happier and better paid. To have something that you helped create be used in such a way is very gratifying.

What is your favorite part about working at MarketTime?

Simply put, my favorite part about working here is the people. We have shaped a very positive culture that has attracted a lot of talented, interesting people who also happen to be funny, kind, passionate, and intelligent. Having those that you want to be around and work with is important, making both daily routines and challenging projects enjoyable and engaging.
